Day 4 Thursday, July 5, 2018
Oh! I have seen things! Hillsides ablaze great white plumes of smoke rising from the mountains settling in the valleys and ridges between peaks charred grasslands trees eaten Caution! Stage 3 Fire ban! no campfires no fireworks no Fourth of July barbecue no cigarette butts on the ground this is the worst fire season in Colorado's history 10 separate blazes in all The Ft. Garland fire now covers 40,000 acres, the 416 fire has eaten up 47,000 acres Huerfano and Costilla are now evacuated approximately 2000 homes destroyed.
We rode somewhat near the fires at Basalt And Lake George:
Other than massive wildfires, the trip was pretty exciting. I'll just let the pictures do the talking. The next series of pictures were taken on hwy 82, Independence Pass, to the top of the Continental Divide.
Here are some shots from the top of the pass:
This is Aspen, on the other side of the mountain. It's a zoo, even in the summer.
Random observation from Randy: You're writing a blog. Somebody somewhere is watching you.
The Grand Junction Rockies lost to the Ogden Raptors, 7-5 in rookie league ball. The Rockies belong to, well, the Colorado Rockies. The Raptors belong to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Too many walks.
Nonetheless, here is Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado:
Front Gate
Down the left field line.
Center field scoreboard.
Down the right field line.
Left field fence.
Corky, their mascot. I don't know what that is.
Anything we've been counting, we saw none of that day. Nada.
Favorite town name: Silt, Colorado
Favorite sign: Best Little Gun Shop in The West
Random observation from Randy: Are we going to pass through the entire state of Colorado and not visit one dispensary?
Next: Salt Lake City
