Day 7 Sunday, July 8, 2018
Before we left Reno we had breakfast at The Silver Legacy Hotel and Casino and played a little blackjack. I won $100.00. Randy sat down for fifteen minutes and won way more.
Random observation from Randy: I'm not wasting my time playing forever. Let's say the trip is paid for so far.
Creepy clown mascot at Circus Circus:
We headed for Monterrey to watch a minor league game, but we had to travel through three separate mountain passes to get there. The game started at 5pm. No way. Not even the game at San Jose at 6pm. So we bagged it and settled in at a motel in Napa and would see the Cubs play the San Francisco Giants the next night.
We skirted the west end of Lake Tahoe and shot a few pictures:
Randy took this cool picture. He actually took several of these as we were flying down the highway making up time.
Our first mountain passage of the day was the Mt. Rose Highway, which connects Reno with Lake Tahoe. It winds through the Sierra Nevada range and dumps out at a town called:
Favorite town name: Incline Village, Nevada.
The second wacky road we took is called the Luther Pass, which connects another part of the Sierra Nevadas from northwest Lake Tahoe to the Carson Basin.
The third pass we took brought us to a hydroelectric dam. Here's the power plant at the base of the dam:
Here's the top of the dam and the lake it created:
This pass winds through El Dorado National Forest.
Another favorite town name: Heavenly, Nevada
Favorite sign: Mosquito Road.
Absolutely no counting items again.
Random observation from Randy: If I ever owned a real estate company, I'd be tempted to call it Reality Realty.
Next: San Francisco
