The Baseball Trip 2018

Day 6, Saturday, July 7, 2018

We leave Salt Lake City and head for Reno. We have shots of the Great Salt Lake, and we have shots of The Great Salt Lake Desert. We cannot tell the difference. All is white:

The far western end of The Great Salt Lake.

The Great Salt Lake Desert.

In any case, It's great, and it's salty.

Random observations from Randy: They look like abstract paintings. You have black, and you have white.

It's 100 degrees on the road. As a matter of fact, it has hit at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit every single day we have been travelling. Six days in a row, travelling west, it has behooved me to slather on the sunscreen, especially on my left arm and knee. I smell like a pina coloda.

Our objective was to get to Reno in a day and a half, but we made such good time we decided to see the Reno Aces that night instead of taking in the afternoon game the next day. Sweltering temps and all.

The Reno Aces belong to the Arizona Diamondbacks (again, Triple A). They face the Sacramento Rivercats (San Francisco Giants). The Aces hit a couple of long home runs to beat the Riverkings 8-1, Finally, a home team wins, Here are some shots from Greater Nevada Field:

 Center field scoreboard.

 Right field berm.

Stretching before the game.

Reno Aces mascot, Archie. I don't know what the hell. Somebody help me.

Some Reno nightlife:

 Cal-Neva Casino.

Reno Arch - Old Town

By the way: some lady got hit on her forearm with a sizzling foul ball. She was ok. Didn't even lose her nachos. Nonetheless, we saw her shoulder: pretty big bruise.

Favorite town name:  Elburz Nevada
                                   Lovelock, Nevada
                                   Pequop, Nevada
                                   Mote, Nevada

Random observation from Randy: Oh the irony. A prison in the middle of Independence Valley.

  1. Archie is named for the Reno Arch which declares Reno "the biggest little city in the world". Double it!
