The Baseball Trip 2018

Day 9   Tuesday July 10, 2018

Today is a travel day.The plan is to get south at least past Los Angeles on our way to San Diego. Again, we take Highway 1 down the coast for a while to Big Sur and beyond. Unfortunately, we notice a sign that told us Highway 1 was closed at Gordo, meaning you have to turn around and head all the way back to Carmel. There are no other roads. We did make it to Big Sur and then decided to turn around. Not too much time lost. Here are some shots from the car by Randy, as I was too busy trying not to fly off a cliff:

 Stony Point

San Gregoria Beach

Particularly rocky section off the highway.

Winding road to Big Sur.

Big Sur.

After that, it was nothing but barren wasteland on our way to Bakersfield. Maybe a cattle ranch here and there, maybe a few oil derricks. We stopped for the night in a little town called Lost Hills, California.

Oh! I have seen things! creepy little town called Lost Hills lost alright lost its moral compass homeless sleeping in the DQ doorway two young punks passed out on the floor of the Motel 6 lobby we will not stay there drug overdose? too much vape? probably take too long to check in what with first responders ambulances firetrucks police... EMT just shrugs her shoulders palms face up like what else is new trucks everywhere breaking down blocking the main thoroughfare trucks parked in alleys every side street every possible spot imaginable it is the end of the line this is hell and hell smells like heroin and diesel fuel. Help me, Jesus, I'm getting that Charles Manson vibe again.

Random observation from Randy: I think we'll try the Days Inn.

Favorite town name: Ragged Point
Favorite sign: Skaggs Road

3 ancient tractors on display but no mowers...it's too damn hot.

Next: San Diego
