Day 6 - Saturday, July16
Random observation from Randy: All these people on Long Island have names for their homes. Like Skyfall. I'm gonna come up with a name for my condo, and I'll nail it to my front door.
Last night (after the Brooklyn game) we traveled east on Long Island to find a hotel with a reasonable price. Unfortunately, we ended up about as far east as you can get. And the damn island is 118 miles long.
Anyway, our goal was to travel through all five boroughs in one day before we left the city. Our goal was also to see the Yankees play the Red Sox at 4:00 pm. Travelling west on the Island, we passed through Brooklyn and Queens and into the Bronx for the ballgame.
Outside Yankee Stadium.
We have been through New York a few times before (we visited the old stadium before they tore it down) but have never been to the new stadium. Last time we thought about it, it was 105 degrees at 6pm and tickets were something like $175.00 each.
The Yankees were up against their arch-rivals the hated Boston Red Sox, and this was going to be fun. Sure enough the Boston fans came down for the series, and it was on.

The Yankees lost 5-2 and fell even further behind the Sox. That's two in a row for Boston, and they were feeling pretty smug.
Here are some more shots from inside and outside the ballpark:
Hot dog pushcart outside the stadium.
Under the elevated along River Street behind the ballpark.

Center field video board. Our seats were in that section on the left.
Randy never had an egg creme before. "It's like Yoohoo, only a lot of carbonation."
After the game we drove downtown into Manhattan, past the Village, past Soho, past Broadway. We wanted to complete the sweep of the city by taking the Staten Island Ferry. I swear to God, I didn't know they weren't taking cars after 9/11. So our dream was foiled.
The new World Trade Center. I had to take this from the car.
Brooklyn architecture from The Deegan. (Courtesy Randy) This building had everything: old fire escapes, graffiti, ornamental crowns over each window.
After all that we beat it out of the city and took the Holland Tunnel into Jersey.
