Day 2- Tuesday, July 12
Oh God help me, more blahness through Ohio. The route we took was a little more interesting than previous trips, but nothing spectacular to report. Seven hours of 90+ temps and nothing to show for it.
Random observation from Randy: There's nothing in Ohio.
Even the ballpark was meh. Youngstown is also Single A ball, but the park pales in comparison to South Bend. The turnout was small and nobody seemed to care. More people were messing with their phones than watching the game. Some kids almost got clobbered with a foul ball; nobody in the whole section knew it was coming.
The team is actually the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians) in the NY-Penn Single A League. Tonight they play host to the Tri-City Valley Cats. Don't ask me what the three cities are, but I do know they belong to the Houston Astros. I must say, though, that it was a much better game than last night. Mahoning Valley prevailed 4-3, but gave up 2 in the ninth.
Eastwood Field, Youngstown. It's in a mall! J.C. Penney and Target are across the parking lot!
From left field.
Maintenance shed and bullpen areas.
Center field. No stands, no grassy knolls.
I did catch up with the mascot, Scrappy. Unlike South Bend, where "Stu" big-timed me. So, they got that going for them.
