Day 5 - Friday, July 15.
Had breakfast at Bella's in Tarrytown NY, just a stone's throw from Sleepy Hollow. As an English teacher, I am ashamed that I didn't visit. Nonetheless, Bella's was delicious; poached eggs, home fries, and bacon.
After that, we headed out for Long Island, looking for Belmont Race Track, home of the third and final leg of the Triple Crown.
The first two races found me down, but the third and fourth races got me back my money. In fact, in the fourth race I bet $10.00 across on a horse named Louie's Baby Boy, and he only showed. But he went off at such astronomical odds that I won $70.00. So I left there down about 3 dollars. Moral victory. Here are a few photos from Belmont:

After Belmont we drove west to Brooklyn. Our destination tonight is Municipal Credit Union Stadium, home to the Brooklyn Cyclones of the NY-Penn League. This is also Single A ball, but the experience is much trippier than any other ballpark in America. Where do I begin? First of all, the ballpark is located just in front of Coney Island. Enough said?
MCU Stadium, Brooklyn. The old parachute drop is on the left.

FDNY night...I met the FD mascot Dalmatian.
Coney Island, left field.
Coney Island, center field.
Ok,so it was also fireworks night at Coney Island, and it was a spectacular show. However, it went off at the start of the ninth inning, and lasted a good half hour... the whole inning. How can you come to bat like that? I mean, the whole idea of the baseball game is second priority to the promotion.
Fireworks night.
More fireworks.
Well, at least I got a picture with one of the mascots. Creepy bird brothers. One is Sandy the Seagull, and the other is called Pee-Wee. I don't know who the hell is who. I don't want to know.
Me and whoever.
Anyways. Brooklyn lost to the Lowell Spinners, 7-3. I might have mentioned this before, but they are the spinners because of the textile industry in Massachusetts.
One last note: The Cyclones have a cheer/dance squad called "The Beach Bums." Young girls that dance between innings, etc. Never saw that in baseball before. Oh, the promotion.
Favorite town name: Ozone Park, NY
Random observation from Randy: This is a triple crown park... it shouldn't be this dumpy.

I'm loving all the mascot pictures and really like the blog layout. Keep up the stellar job.
