Day 8 - Tuesday June 11

Today was supposed to be laundry day, but we were too busy (lazy).

Random Observation from Randy: "Walmart should open churches at their stores. That would be real one-stop shopping...and a good revenue stream."

We wanted to take the tour of the Hindenburg disaster at the Naval Air Base in Lakehurst, New Jersey, but you have to schedule two weeks in advance. The next thought was to visit the memorial site, but it was closed. So here's a picture, courtesy of Google:

Oh, I forgot to mention...we had dinner last night at Local Smoke BBQ. Google said it was a two minute walk from our hotel. That's because it was next door. I had the pulled pork sandwich; Randy had ribs. And it was delicious.

This morning we stopped at Tootie's Cafe and Ice Cream Bar for breakfast:

After that, we headed to Atlantic City for a little blackjack at Caesar's Palace:

And onward to Lakewood and the Single-A minor league game between the Jersey Shore Blue Claws and the Wilmington Blue Rocks. The Blue Claws are the A-ball affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Blue Rocks belong to the Washington Nationals.

The game was pretty clean and very tight for the first four innings, but then a homer in the top of the fifth gave the Rocks a 1-0 lead. But the Claws broke loose in the bottom of the inning as Jordan Dissan crushed a grand slam to left. The Blue Claws held on for a 5-4 victory.
