The Baseball Trip 2019

Day 2, Sunday, July 14

The drive on Sunday was more of the same, so let's just get right to the game. Tonight the Akron Rubber Ducks (that's right; you heard me) are playing the Bowie (Maryland) Baysox. They are the Rubber Ducks because of Akron's history with the rubber and tire industry. So there.

Akron is the class AA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Bowie belongs to the Baltimore Orioles. Bowie held the Rubber Ducks hitless into the seventh. The first inning only took ten minutes; the first three innings were done in 43 minutes. Bowie was up 4-0 by the time they allowed that first hit, but Akron did manage to scratch out 2 runs that inning. But that was it; 4-2 was the final score. Total time of game: 2 hours, 31 minutes. I believe that is the fastest game we have ever seen played.

Me with the mascot. Her name is Rubberta. I kid you not.

The YMCA building beyond center field. It is listed in the National Register as a National Historic Building. This art deco treasure was built in the 1920's. Although they no longer own the building, the YMCA still occupies space there.
